The importance of finding a reputable snow removal company in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, and Nampa, Idaho

November is almost over and we are anticipating another winter with above average snow-fall in the Treasure Valley.  If you have a commercial business you may still be experiencing post-traumatic stress from last year’s record snow-fall and the headaches that it caused for you and your business.  You may also be trying to prevent some of the costs that were incurred because of accidents and falls that occurred on your property.
If you haven’t found a reliable snow contractor that provides quality work, take some time to review the questions you should be asking before committing to a snow removal company.
Are you insured?  Safety and liability are extremely important issues to consider in snow removal.  Does the snow contractor have the appropriate liability insurance to cover any bodily injury or property damage that could occur as a result of their work?
Does your company have experience in snow removal?  Choosing a company not only with experience but the right equipment is of prime importance.  Professional snow removal companies understand the processes involved in safely removing snow and ice and have the equipment to execute the job in a timely manner.  You want a company that can anticipate and react to any size storm or weather system appropriately.
Will they meet with you to discuss planning and pricing?  It’s important that you walk through your property with any potential snow contractors so that they understand what will need to be cleared during the winter months.  Once they have a clear idea of what you need they should be able to communicate to you how the company will respond to your needs and how much it will cost you.
These are just a few of the basic questions you should ask of any snow removal business.  An honest and reputable company will answer any questions you have and will detail how they will execute prompt quality snow removal that will keep your commercial property accessible and your employees and clientele safe.

At Organic Solutions! November Preparations for your Spring lawn and landscape in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, and Nampa Idaho

Before the snow begins to fall and winter sets in you may want to take a few steps to ensure that your lawn looks it best when spring rolls around.

Here are just a few ideas for preparing your lawn for Spring in November:

For a nice and tidy yard throughout the winter,  trim the edges of your lawn for a professional appearance.

We also recommend adding organic mulch to your beds and borders, not only will this help your yard aesthetically but it will also help insulate the soil and prevent sudden changes in temperature that could be detrimental to plant growth.

Of course, leaf removal is of high priority in November.  Unless you mulch your leaves, you should remove them from the surface of your lawn.  When leaves cover your lawn they prevent your grass from much needed light and which can distress your lawn and even cause dead spots.

At Organic Solutions! Inc., we care about the health of your landscape as well as the appearance and functionality.  If you would like to meet with one of our team member’s to discuss the many options available to help you care for and maintain your lawn and landscape, give us a call, 208-884-8986, or email us at organicsolutionsinc@outlook.com.

Winterizing your lawn and landscape tools in Boise, Meridian, Nampa, and Eagle, Idaho.

As fall gradually gives way to winter, it is important to winterize your lawn equipment to extend its life and efficiency.  Taking the time and effort to properly winterize your lawn care equipment is worth the time and effort and it takes and will guarantee fewer issues in the spring.

Small engines such as found in your lawn mowers and gas powered trimmers and blowers are susceptible to a variety of problems caused by today’s blended fuels.  It is recommended that you treat your gasoline with a fuel stabilizer and allow it to circulate through your gas powered motors, and if possible run the gasoline out of the tank.  This is also a good time to change the oil and complete any other maintenance tasks such as sharpening the blades on your mower.  Make sure to check with and comply with the manufacturers recommendations for winterizing your lawn equipment.

This is also a good time to take care of your lawn and garden tools.  Make sure that you clean off your shovels, trowels, garden hoses and such before storing them.  You can use a wire brush for hard to remove soil and rust and then wipe the tool down with some motor oil to keep them from rusting again.  If your wooden handles are rough, you can use sandpaper to smooth them out and then apply some linseed oil to prevent the wood from drying out and splitting.  Garden hoses should be disconnected, drained and stored indoors to prolong their life.

While you are winterizing your lawn care equipment it is also a good idea to inspect your snowblower and make sure it is ready before the snow starts to fall.  Besides the engine, inspect the blades/auger, clutch, belt and any other common wear parts.  Make sure the nuts and bolts are in place and properly torqued.  Make sure to check the manufacturers recommendations.  This is also a good time to make sure you have a good snow shovel on hand.

Tips for keeping your lawn healthy before the snow falls in Boise, Nampa, Eagle, and Meridian.

When it comes to winterizing your lawn and landscape, at Organic Solutions! Inc., we have stressed the importance of late fall fertilization, fall clean-up and pruning and proper irrigation system blowouts.  We wanted to take some time to discuss some other lawn tips to help you keep your lawn in the best possible shape throughout the winter months ahead.

When the weather becomes cold and we typically spend more time indoors, it can be easy to forget about items that may have been left out on the lawn.  Besides the obvious need for leaf removal to prevent damage to the lawn, you also need to keep your eyes out for items such as wood, dog toys, tools, and lawn furniture that may be left on the lawn and can lead to dead spots.  Pet waste is also detrimental to lawns if left all winter so it is a good idea to pick up after pets whenever the snow clears.  In order to prevent lawn damage it is a good idea to make an occasional sweep of your lawn to make sure that it is clear of any items that could cause damage.

It is also a good idea to avoid heavy traffic on your lawn once it has gone into dormancy.  We suggest discouraging foot traffic by keeping your sidewalks and pathways clear of snow and making sure that you don’t park vehicles on the lawn.  We would also recommend shoveling our pathways through your lawn and using a de-icing agent only when necessary as salts and other chemicals can cause damage to your lawn.

Fall Deep Root Feeding for your trees and shrubs in Boise, Eagle, Meridian, and Nampa Idaho.

We often talk about the importance of healthy soil for your lawn and garden.  But today we want to focus on the importance of healthy soil for your trees.  Trees are a valuable investment in your landscape as well as an important natural resource.  In order to ensure the health and vitality of your trees, nutrient rich soil is essential.

At Organic Solutions, Inc., we recognize the importance of having healthy trees in our neighborhoods and communities and have seen the benefit of our deep root fertilization applications.  Having a deep root feeding in the fall will help your trees overcome the stress from summer and prepare them for the winter ahead.  The slow release formula will also feed and nourish your tree throughout the growing season.

The benefits of applying Sulfur to your lawn in Boise, Eagle, Meridian, and Nampa Idaho.

Now that it is November you have probably put any ideas of lawn care on the back burner.  But there are some things you can do this late in the season that will help you have a green lush lawn in the spring.  We have talked in previous blogs about the importance of that end of the season fertilization for a healthy lawn but we haven’t discussed another application that could be of great benefit to your lawn before winter comes and that is a Sulfur.

Sulfur is important in maintaining a healthy ph balance in your lawn and soil.  When the ph levels are too high or low (too acidic or too alkaline) the lawn cannot absorb the nutrients it needs such as nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium which can cause your lawn to grow slowly and not look as lush or green as it should.

There are many factors which can cause the ph balance of your soil to be out of whack from urban development which contributes to the loss of good topsoil and the leaching of lime from cement structures, to bicarbonates found in your water source.  A Sulfur treatment will help improve the ph balance of your soil which in turn will aid in growing a beautiful lush green lawn.

If you are interested in lawn fertilization or a Sulfur application before winter arrives, contact us today!
